Case Study - Ben

Ben Ashton

Which company are your currently employed by?
Nicholas Mee & Co Ltd

Why did you choose Heritage Skills Academy?
I did in fact interview with another college provider, the main draw factor to Heritage Skills Academy for me was the course structure and the fact that they ran an apprenticeship scheme rather than it being optional. In my opinion, the block release structure and spending the rest of the time in a place of work, is the best way of consolidating knowledge and developing the best understanding possible of the cars we work on and the industry as a whole.

How does it compare to your previous experiences of schooling and training?
I find that the smaller class sizes allow for a far more personal experience meaning the tutor is always on hand to answer any questions I may have. The training structure allows for a much better balance of theory and practical work than I have previously experienced.

I have learnt the most in the Engine and Gearbox modules when we are able to fully disassemble and reassemble them.
What has been the biggest challenge for you to overcome whilst training with HSA?
The biggest challenge was learning early on in the course that I need to prepare for the upcoming modules in the form of note taking in order to get the most out of the theory lessons.

I hope to remain with the company I am currently with but hope to have some motors sport experience under my belt
